The structure was burnt to ashes and all valuables among other royal apparels and insignias were gutted by fire. The cause of the fire could not be immediately ascertained as all necessary precautions were said to be in place before going to sleep on Saturday 8th of November, 2014.

But the monarch insisted that the restoration of electricity to the community later at midnight might have sparked an electrical surge that snowballed into the fire.

He further explained that the entire family woke up late from the other residential building at about 5:00am to emergency calls from neighbours.

The state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Basorun Muyiwa Oladipo, who was on assessment tour of the palace lamented that the incident was pathetic and a great loss to the entire Oke Odo Community.

While expressing shock, he said it was a great destruction, praying that God would give the kabiyesi the grace to bear the loss.
