LEADING gubernatorial aspirant on the platform of the PDP in Cross River state, Prince Goddy Jedy Agba, has described the action of Cross River state PDP purportedly suspending him from the party as a huge joke.
In a statement signed by his Media Consultant, Phrank Shaibu, the former Group General Manager, Crude Oil Marketing at the NNPC said the purported suspension was laughable, illegal and evil.
The statement said: “We read with suppressed disgust the news of the purported suspension of Prince Goddy Jedy Agba few hours after an unprecedented and record breaking crowd comprising notable sons and daughters of Cross River State including but not limited to Mr. Donald Duke, the former governor of the state received him at a grand reception in Calabar.
“Anyway, we find the purported suspension not only laughable but illegal, evil and to say the obvious, undemocratic. The PDP constitution clearly stipulates the procedure for suspending members from the party. The state executive never followed such procedure. This, for us, clearly represents a new level of illegality and political brigandage by the anti-democratic forces that have hijacked our dear party in Cross River for their own selfish motives.”
He further stated that the procedure for disciplining erring party members was
clearly spelt out in the PDP constitution and should be adhered to.
“Article 57 (3) section 57 (3) of the party constitution, 2012, as amended says, “the Working Committee, at any level of the party, and the executive committee (at the Ward Level) may, after preliminary hearings, suspend a member from the party for a period not exceeding one month, during which period the member so suspended shall lose his right to contest any election, and shall be referred to the appropriate disciplinary committee.”
Specifically, Article 57 (4) states that where an allegation is made against a member of the party, the disciplinary committee shall inform the member in writing of the allegations made against him or her.
“Nobody has till date informed Goddy Jedy Agba of any wrong doing against my party,” the statement said.
“Let me place on record that the PDP Congress Appeal Committee was in Cross River state for two days and there was no petition tabled before them. Besides, it is amazing how, this same chairman who was quoted in national dailies as saying there were no irregularities relating to the congresses in Cross River state could now make a u-turn to ‘suspend’ loyal party men from the party on the flimsy excuse that they ‘corrupted’ the process leading to the congress.”
“In view of the desperation, illegality, cacophony of lies and brazen impunity associated with the purported suspension, we call on the national leadership of our great party save the party in Cross River state from men who lack integrity and who believe in the personalization of democratic processes with consequences that are clearly detrimental to the success of our great party at the polls.”
“We have repeatedly stated that Goddy Jedy Agba is favoured by God and loved by the people. It is that same love that we have put to test before members of our great party and the Cross River electorate. We have neither resorted to self-help, nor attempted to circumvent the process by arm-twisting the party leadership at any level. So, why is it so difficult for these men and their fellow travelers to follow this time-tested route?
The other day, this same state chairman alluded that Goddy Jedy Agba was not a member of the PDP, hence he should forget the governorship contest. Now they have ‘suspended’ the same man they said was not a member of the PDP. Is there no end to this blatant greed for power?”
